If you keep a close eye on the App Store (or have an RSS feed following it) you may have seen an app called Minecrafted there on Monday morning. Minecraft Servers Minecraft Servers It's an Minecraft client for iOS which is a version of the hugely popular indie game that can be played on an iPhone, and connect up to real Minecraft servers. It is not a good idea to hurry to download it. The application has been removed from the App Store, and you'll get an error message if you try to locate it on the US store.

What's the issue? TUAW approached Trevor Wilkin, the app's creator. Minecraft Servers He explained that his original plan was for the client to be created, then submitted to Apple and then approved by Minecraft before it was released. Apple removed it from the market immediately, however it took a while before it went live, and Wilkin states that he "pretty much freaked out and had to get it removed as fast as I could." He doesn't know whether the app is legitimate or not, as it's all original code, according to the description, but it's likely that he reverse engineered some things, as it's compatible with current servers and versions of the game.

To us, Wilkin sounds innocent enough. Wilkin says he does not want to harm the brand, but just wanted to provide an efficient tool. I'm hoping to find a solution that doesn’t put anyone at risk. We hope so too -- Minecraft officially running on iOS would be a nice benefit for both iPhone owners as well as fans of the game that is so popular.
