Augmented reality mobile game Minecraft Earth is shutting down in June, developer Mojang Studios announced this morning.

- Off - English The official announcement states that Minecraft Earth was built around free movement and collaborative play. These are two aspects that have become difficult to achieve in the current global climate. "We have taken the difficult decision that we will shift resources to other areas that are beneficial to the Minecraft community, and that Minecraft Earth support will end in June 2021."

As a game that revolves around exploring the world, it seems Minecraft Earth didn't fare well during the current epidemic of covid-19 that has stopped potential players from playing in public. The game isn't going gentle into the good night. A new update, dropping today, will stop real-money transactions, making it easier to play while being safe inside. Everyone who registers for Minecraft Earth between now & June 30 will receive a collection of items for creating characters.

After June 30, Minecraft Earth will be unavailable for download. Mojang promised to give everyone who paid real money for Minecraft a copy of Minecraft as a thank you.
