After wishing and hoping and dreaming and punching a few enemies to death out of pure frustration that One Punch Man season 2 isn’t out yet, fans can breathe a sigh of relief. Viz Media has finally, officially announced that it has secured the rights for the second season of the massively popular anime series. Viz made the official announcement via Twitter, which set many a fan’s hearts ablaze, since it’s been a long time coming.

Viz Media’s official statement reads that it has secured the “master license” for the second season of the show, which covers the whole shebang: TV broadcast, home media, merchandising, and digital streaming — anything that Viz could potentially want to do with the show for fans is covered, and that means big things for fans. Unfortunately, despite the announcement, we’re not any closer to a release date for when we can expect to see the English version of the series, but this is definitely a step in the right direction.
The company announced on Twitter it has secured the license for the second season of the hit series. This covers digital streaming, TV broadcast, EST, home media and merchandising rights in North America, Latin America and Oceania.

More details about the new season will be shared at a later time. VIZ Media will be showcasing One-Punch Man at Licensing Expo 2018, which takes place from May 22–24 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, NV. For more info on the event, visit the official website.

Animation studio Madhouse (Death Note, Wolf Children) and director Shingo Natsume are not directing the second season. Instead, Chikara Sakurai will direct and J.C. Staff (Food Wars, Toradora) will animate Season 2.

One Punch Man follows the story of Saitama, a young man who decided to become a hero one day for fun. He set himself on a path to train every single day as hard as he possibly could, emerging one day bald, but the strongest man in the world — perhaps even the universe. Unfortunately, that kind of strength comes with a downside: he can take out virtually any enemy with just one punch. Despite the fact that he can eliminate anyone, however, it caused some serious boredom on his end. Being that strong isn’t very interesting if you can’t enjoy a little danger on the side, is it?

With the acquisition of the One Punch Man master license, hopefully we’ll be hearing more about when we can get our hands on the new season soon enough. It’s been long enough, as most fans will likely agree.
