YOU Have To Make That Decision

It all depends on YOU and the game I suppose. YOU have to make that decision. Every child is different so you will have to help them out. As long as they understand it is just a game and nothing to get upset about then that's a first step.

As far as Mincraft, when the child is comfortable with a keyboard and mouse or the touch pad on a laptop then they should be fine. The game itself is not really hard it just can get confusing (as you can get lost real fast, and trying to get around can be hard for first timers) or frustrating if you don't know how to defend yourself from the "mobs" (monsters).

If you start out in "Creative mode" the monsters are there but they ignore you and they won't attack. You will also have 99% if all the blocks available in their inventory so they can start building right off the bat. You can also fly in creative mode so they can get around better. There is also the multiplayer aspect to look at. You can play with other family members in the same house via a Lan connection or over the internet with their buddys down the street.

minecraft is an exellent game for kids, they can destroy or build to their hearts content. Srvlst There really is no ending to it. Once they learn how to play then there are many other things to do, like warping to the "official" end to the game by killing a dragon plus there are hundreds of mods that you can download to make the game even more interesting.

As with any game you should always be available to see how they are doing. Minecraft Servers Are My Life
